(...) I cannot detect one word that excludes photography from the domain of fine art. But in Moholy-Nagy’s New Vision I found support for my theory that photography is the art of the future. It will take its place beside sculpture and painting as an equal, not as a superior. It will surpass the older arts only in popularity. Just as painting became more popular than sculpture without supplanting it, photography will surpass painting because it is more modern.
I would like to quote Moholy-Nagy to support my theory. He writes: "It seems that from the standpoint of technical development - the picture painted by hand is surpassed by the purer "pictorial" light creative possibilities of projection. Ever since the invention of the motion picture, many painters have concerned themselves with this problem; projection, light, motion, interpretation (photography is doubtless a bridge to this problem as well). This conception does not attack the use of manual technique, in so far as it meets individual or educational needs. Such manual methods are, however, less of our day than the mechanical methods now available."
