If you greatly admire many of Edward Weston’s photographs – as I do – and if you find them aesthetically majestic, recognize their substantial influence and their high status in contemporary criticism, you may turn to the photographer’s writings in an effort to discover his intentions, his philosophies, perhaps even his secrets. Expect complexity.
